A New Container

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” Matthew 9:17 NIV

I often wondered what Jesus meant about the illustration of new wine in old wineskins. We can’t accept new truths if we don’t change our way of thinking. The new truth does not fit with our old way of thinking. We need new hearts that are willing to listen and apply the new truth that Jesus gives us. Pray for open hearts to accept new truths that we have not heard before. Check to make sure the truth is Biblical. Be like the Bereans who search the scriptures to test whether what was preached agreed with the scriptures. If what you hear agrees with the scriptures, ask God to open your hearts so that you may accept it and apply it to your lives.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
