Are You Weary?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

I don’t know many people who are not tired, worn out or burned out at least at some point. We dream of vacations – not vacations that are packed full of sites to see and places to go but vacations where we can truly rest a while. We have to get away to do that, right? Jesus invites us to learn the unforced rhythms of grace. A flow that just happens naturally, not something we plan. Notice Jesus says we don’t have to get away to find that. He says he will teach us while we are walking and working with him. Maybe rest doesn’t have so much to do with your workload or getting away but with whom you spend time. Jesus is basically saying “Hang out. I’ll teach you what’s important. I’ll teach you how to live. It’ll be so much easier than what you are doing now. Learn from the Master.”
