Batter Up!

Softball shirt

“It’s one, two, three strikes you’re out at the old ball game”!!!!! Sound familiar. Anyone who has grown up loving baseball will love this song. Although I didn’t grow up watching baseball, I did grow up playing softball. At one point, I was the only girl on an all male team. Thankfully, my friend Melissa, joined me one year. That was comforting.

In high school, I and two other girl friends tried out for our school baseball team. It was not registered as an All Male Team, so we thought we should have a fair shot. We soon realized that was not the case when the coach announced that no matter who was picked for the team, we would all have to shave our heads to a short military style cut. We knew he would never treat us fairly.

Then, I grew up. Still playing softball, still loving the game, but finally finding a team that would give guys and girls a fair shot at play. I joined a Church Softball Team and found true love of the game and true friendships. For the next 10 years, I played on a Coed Team affiliated with the local Fellowship League. There was no harsh language allowed and no bad behavior was tolerated. For 10 years, I played on that team and for 10 years I built strong bonds with my fellow teammates and the teammates of our opponents. What a nice change. AND, I actually proved to be just as good as my brothers on the team. We all got along so well.

I have since moved and have not found a Fellowship League, but continue to play softball in the community as it does build a sense of camaraderie and friendship. Any team sport can build discipline, physical strength, and a sense of belonging.

Matthew 19:26 says “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” The sense of belonging and God’s possibilities in team sports or life are the reasons we started offering custom Team Apparel. We truly enjoy hearing the stories of how “once we were all in the same team shirt, our morale increased and we starting winning games”. It is not all about the winning, it’s about God’s possibilities through team work. Email us if you want more information at Peace Be With U.
