Be still and let God

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14 NIV

The Israelites left Egypt. They are camped near the Red Sea waiting to cross over. In Egypt, they witnessed the power of the LORD through the plagues that God put on Egypt. Now they were free. Or were they? They look up the next morning and they see a cloud of dust from the chariots of Pharaoh. Pharaoh changed his mind and was coming to take the people back.

The Israelites were alarmed and afraid. They started accusing Moses. “Why did you take us out in the desert to die? Weren’t there enough graves in Egypt?” They had forgotten how God fought for them in Egypt. Moses calmly said don’t worry. You don’t need to do anything. Just wait on the LORD. He will fight for you. And that is what the LORD did. He parted the sea and the whole congregation walked across the dry riverbed to the other side. Pharaoh was not so lucky. The water did not part for him. Instead, the water that the LORD was holding back came crashing down and wiped out Pharaoh and his whole army.

We often forget, when we are facing trials and tribulations, that God was with us before and He will be with us today and tomorrow.

it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. Lamentations 3:26 NIV

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalms 37:7 NIV

I wait for your salvation, LORD, and I follow your commands. Psalms 119:166 NIV
