Blessings Outweigh Curses

“How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced? Numbers 23:8 NKJV

In the book of Numbers 22 – 24, is the story of the King of Moab, Balak. He is afraid of the Israelites who are camped nearby, so he hires Balaam, who was once a prophet of God, to come and curse the people so they would not be able to overpower the Moabites. It is an interesting story of Balaam’s journey to try and follow God and receive riches. It even has a talking donkey in the story.

My focus today is on what Balaam said to Balak. Balaam said he could not curse the Israelites because God had blessed them. When we are blessed by God, no curse of man can prevail against us. To take this one step further, when we are unhappy with our church leaders, we have to remember that God has placed them in that position, and we need to lift them up in prayer. Satan is out to bring down our church leaders so that the flock will be scattered.

Balaam was not able to curse the Israelites because they were blessed by God. However, there was a way around the blessing. The Moabite women seduced the men of Israel into worshiping their gods. Blessings can be removed when we no longer stay true to God. Pray for our leaders that they will stay true to God and resist Satan’s temptations.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NIV
