Cleaning up the heart

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Ephesians 4:31 NLT

We each have problems with hatred. It manifests itself in different ways. We can be bitter towards someone that we feel has mistreated us. There is road rage, where people get so angry when someone cuts them off in traffic that they scream and holler at the person and sometimes do even worse things. Our words to others can be very mean and not Christlike. What about slander or otherwise known as gossip? And the list can go on… What do we do about it? All the self-help books, seminars, and counseling can make a difference, but it is only through prayer, Bible study, and allowing the Holy Spirit to work on our lives that these things can and will be removed.

When the heart is cleansed, it cannot be left empty. It needs to be filled with good things by the Holy Spirit:

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 NLT
