Fertile Fields

till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. (Isaiah 32:15 NIV)

Israel was depending on enemy kings for their protection and they were resting on their laurels because of their abundance. God wanted them to open their eyes and see their abundance for what it was – temporary. They were relying on the wrong things. We do the same. We look around us and see our bounty and get confused about what true abundance is. True abundance is not temporary and it has deep roots. True abundance comes from the Holy Spirit. It is a gift that changes our thinking and our motives. It may not look as extravagant, but it is definitely more secure.
