Forget the Past, Today is a New Day

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV)

When I first read this verse, I thought of the negative things in our past that we need to forget and not dwell on.  This is good advice because every time we think about these negative thoughts it brings up the pain all over again.  It is best to ask God for the strength to forgive and bring healing.

Then I realized there may be another meaning to this verse.  It could mean don’t rely on the miracles that God performed in the past because He has so much more to perform for us in the future. Because of what He has done in the past, it gives us confidence, trust, and faith in what He will do in the future.  He will do so much more for us. He has a lot of good things planned for each of us.
