Fourth Servant Song in Isaiah – Part 4

Yet it was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for His own sins! But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on Him the sins of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6

Verses 4 through 6 emphasize the suffering and death that the Messiah, Jesus accepted in our place.  He took the punishment that we deserve. He took our place so that we can have eternal life. Often people think that if someone is having a difficult time in life it is because God is punishing that person for something they did. That was especially true when Christ was on this earth. Jesus died for sinners, but he was not a sinner. He was the perfect Lamb of God.

As we prepare our hearts for Easter celebrations, it is good to think about what Christ did for us.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed. 1 Peter 2:24
