Gift of Love

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (James 1:17 NKJV)

Gary Chapman, a marriage counselor, wrote a series of books on the five love languages that we speak to show love to each other.  They are:

Words of Affirmation
Quality Time
Acts of Service
Physical Touch

God speaks each of these languages to us to make us feel loved.  Our verse today is about gifts.  Who but our creator knows us better than anyone else?  He knows our likes and dislikes.  He knows our needs.  He knows what is best for us.  Every gift He gives us is special.  He picks it out just for you.  Sometimes you wonder why He give a particular gift only to find out later it was the perfect gift received at the perfect time.  Starting today, look for the gifts He gives you.  A rainbow after a storm.  A child or grandchild’s smile.  The breath of life.  See how many gifts you can name.

Father God, thank you for the gifts you have given us.  Open our eyes so we can see how much you love us through the gifts you give.  Thank you most of all the gift of eternal life through your son.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
