Giving and Receiving

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. ” Luke 6:38 NLT

What do you think of when you read this verse? Is it talking about how you treat others and others will treat you the same? Yes, I believe it does. However, it goes a little further than that. Read the verse before it.

“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37 NKJV

Yes, it talks about how we treat others, but it is specific on judging and being critical of others. Often we judge others based on what we have done. Jesus brings this up in verse 41.

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Luke 6:41 NKJV

Can we be an accurate judge over someone else when we have problems? We can’t read someone else’s mind nor know their motives. This is something to think about when we start complaining about what someone is doing that doesn’t fit what we think should be done. Let’s look at ourselves before we look at the imperfections in someone else.
