God is Faithful

That night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” Genesis 26:24 NIV

Isaac was having problems with his neighbors. Every time Isaac dug a well for his flocks, the neighbors would fill it in or claim it as theirs. Isaac was a peace-loving person, so instead of standing his ground to claim what was his, he moved to another location. At last, he was able to dig another well, but the neighbors didn’t object.

That night, Isaac had a dream from God that reassured him that God understood what he was going through. God reaffirmed the covenantal promises made to Abraham, which are now being passed on to Isaac. God assured Isaac that the promises regarding land, descendants, and blessings continue through him. This reaffirms the Abrahamic Covenant described in earlier chapters of Genesis.

The same promises apply to God’s followers. God is a promise keeper and faithful in keeping His promises. We have nothing to fear because God is with us through the challenges we face. It is our duty to pass along the assurance that God is with our descendants as well.
