God is Love

God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love. 1 John 4:17-18 (MSG)

If you asked one of my kids if they were afraid of me, they would probably laugh and tell you no. While I do believe they respect my opinion, if they do something that they know I won’t agree with, they do not live in fear of my response.  This is because we’ve spent time together; laughing, loving, struggling, crying and sharing. All that time built a trust in our love for each other. It’s the same with God. As we spend time living with God and God living in us, we build a trust. So when life brings laughing, loving, struggling, crying and sharing moments, we’ve learned that whatever he allows is good.  There is no fear in this kind of love. Since God is love and we are the object of his love, he will gladly teach us all about it.
