Have Compassion

Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15 NLT

Genuine love is shown through sympathy for others in all circumstances, whether good or bad. It often seems easier to sympathize with those who weep. Envy can get in the way of our rejoicing over someone’s joy. Our self-centeredness often makes it difficult to rejoice when someone else gets the job promotion that we expected. It is hard when someone else gets public accolades for something that we did. The next time you are in a situation where you find it hard to rejoice or weep with others, look at why you are having a difficult time.

As I write this, events come to mind where I did not receive the recognition that someone else received instead. I have not gotten a promotion that someone else got instead of me. Learning to rejoice for others helps us learn not to be self-centered and more Christ-centered. After all, Christ is in control and He always knows what is best not only for us, but others as well.
