He Loves You

Common Myth:  God is sitting in heaven looking for ways to punish us.

I was sitting at a dinner once with lots of people and I overheard a mom say to her child when she fell that God was getting her back for disobeying. So many people see God this way. It’s what Satan wants us to believe so we’ll be afraid of God instead of in love with him. The Bible has a few things to say about this myth.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV)

The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV)

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13 NIV)

Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. (Isaiah 43:4 NIV)

God is not sitting in heaven looking for ways to say “gotcha.” He’s loving us. Unconditionally, forever.
