Hiding the Word

I have hidden Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. (Psalms 119:11 NLT)

What does it mean to hide God’s Word in our hearts?  When we read the Bible, we are storing the Word in our memory banks.  As you read the Bible over and over again, you are storing God’s Word in your mind. When you deliberately memorize scripture, you make it easier to recall. As I write these words, I am convinced that I need to do more memorization.

How does memorizing scripture help you?  As Psalms 19:11 says, it helps us to make wise decisions when we are tempted.  The Bible tells us what is right from wrong. Through the Bible, God has given us directions on how to live a life that brings glory to Him.

When you need encouragement, you can recall verses that inspire and encourage.  I like to create graphics with scripture that I attach to my devotionals.  I have set my screensaver to display them when my computer is idle for 30 minutes.  When I return to my computer, the scriptures are displayed on the screen.  I often sit and read them for a few minutes before I have to go back to work.

Hiding God’s Word in your heart gives you life instructions, a path for your life to avoid falling to temptation, and the promises bring you encouragement.
