But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…” (2 Corinthians 12:9a NIV)
Paul had some kind of affliction. He does not say what it was. Many people think it was his eyesight. Paul said he prayed three times to have the problem removed. Our scripture today was God’s answer to Paul’s prayer.
If Paul’s problem was his eyesight it caused him to rely on others to help him by writing for him. His writers’ faith grew stronger as they wrote down what Paul dictated. Speaking slowly so that his writer could catch all of his words caused Paul to be patient. Paul had to rely on God to give him the patience he needed. He had to depend on God to give him the strength and wisdom he needed for his ministry. Paul could not do it alone. Neither can we.
Is there something that you have been praying that God would remove from your life? Maybe God wants it to remain so that we rely on Him for the strength we need. Maybe our weakness opens our eyes to others that need comforting for the same problem we have. Maybe our weakness opens the door to allow others in that can help us. It may bring blessings to them. We cannot do it alone. We need the strength and power that Jesus provides.
