His Robe of Righteousness

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10 NIV)

In ancient Israel when a couple was engaged to be married, there was great celebration! A week before the wedding the bride would celebrate in one part of the village with the women and the groom would celebrate in another part of the village with the men. Then, on the day of the wedding, they would walk to the place of celebration. They would both be dressed for the occasion with the bride wearing a gown the groom provided. And so it is with our relationship with Jesus. As we begin our relationship with him; as we walk trusting in his provision, he dresses us in his garment. He changes us from the inside out so that the clothing people see us wearing is a reflection of who he is. Just like in a marriage, the relationship with God isn’t always a bed of roses, but over time we learn to trust him and are changed because of our time together.
