How to do Biblical Searching

The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Psalms 118:6 NIV

Have you seen this verse before? It is referenced in the New Testament.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 NIV

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrews 13:6 NIV

Many Christians focus only on the New Testament. To understand the New Testament, we must know the Old Testament, which gives us an understanding of it.

How can you find verses that talk about the same topic? Use a concordance and look up keywords. You will find a list of scripture verses that include your keywords. I use e-Sword on my computer and iPhone. You can download many commentaries. One of my favorites is TSK Cross References. That is what I used today to find the two verses in the New Testament that say something similar to today’s verse.

There are many tools available to us today to help us understand the Bible. If you find a verse that seems to contradict the Bible, do some research for other verses that talk about the same topic. You will find that the Bible does not contradict itself. We just don’t always understand a particular verse until we look at it with other verses that talk about the same subject.
