How Would You Choose

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.  Luke 1:38 (NLT)

When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife.  Matthew 1:24 (NLT)

When Mary was told she was pregnant and she wasn’t married, I am sure it rocked her world. In her time, women were stoned for having sex outside the marriage bed. And after all, everyone knows how you get pregnant.  It rocked Joseph’s world too. Can you imagine being told by your fiancé that she was pregnant but not to worry, she didn’t sleep with anyone else?  God chose Mary and Joseph for the awesome task of being the earthly parents of his son. Could we understand why in their responses.  When an angel visited each of them, they said “OK. I’ll do it.”  I wonder if we were more willing to say “OK, I’ll do it.” when something God-sized came our way if God would choose us too.
