I Can’t – but He Can!

So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:10-11 NIV)

God told Moses he had a job for him. Moses response was “I can’t.” Was it because he had spent 40 years doing the same thing and he was comfortable with his routine? Was it because he sat around each day reading self-help books and working to improve himself so he knew he wasn’t ready? Was it because he didn’t know enough about Egypt and the government there, after all he wasn’t the latest subject matter expert (SME). There were more current experts than him. Was he afraid?

Whatever his reason, he told God “I can’t.” And God’s response? “Of course you can’t! But I can. So get moving. This isn’t about you.” Has God called you lately? If he has or if he calls you in the future, your response should be “I can’t. But you can. Let’s go.”
