Jacob’s Promise

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28:15 NIV

Jacob had to leave home because of the bad choices he made. He tricked his brother and lied to his father. To save his life and keep peace in the family, He had to leave. That first night in the wilderness must have been very difficult for him. I am sure he reviewed the mess he made and wished he could go back and start over. But God had plans for Him. That night, he had a dream of a stairway resting on earth and reaching heaven. On the stairway, he saw angels of God ascending and descending. At the top of the stairs was the LORD. The LORD spoke the words in our verse today. The LORD promised to be with Him on his journey and would return him to his family. It would be over 20 years before he saw his father and brother again. The LORD kept His promise. Life was up and down, but the LORD was with him each step of the way.

The same promise that the LORD made to Jacob applies to us. The LORD promises to always be with us on our life journey. He is waiting for us at the top of the heavenly stairs. One day soon, He will return and take us to our heavenly home.
