Joyful Trials

Zec 13:9

Today we start a journey through the book of James.  It is one of my favorite books in the Bible.  In the book of James you will find encouragement.  It is a guide how to live a Christian life.  It gives you advice on how to grow spiritually by exercising the faith you currently have in God.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)

Do you enjoy going through trials and tribulations?  I don’t.  But if you look at them as a trial that will produce a stronger faith it makes it worthwhile.  Each trail we face makes us stronger for the next challenge that will come.  To purify silver it must go through a refining process to remove the dross so that the precious metal will be revealed.  My husband and I visited Virginia City, Nevada a few years back.  In the 1800’s miners were originally looking for gold but they had a problem digging for gold because there was this sticky blue-green mud that stuck to their shovels.  They would remove the mud and dump it outside the mine.  This worthless annoyance was discovered to be silver.  We are like that annoying blue-green mud that must go through the refining process to reveal the precious metal that is hidden in each of us.
