Just Believe

[Gabriel] Zacharias, your prayers have been heard. Your wife is going to have a son, and you will name him John.

[Zacharias] How can I be sure of what you’re telling me?

Luke 1:13, 18

How long do you think Zacharias and Elizabeth prayed for a child? 20 years? More? They were past child bearing years when Gabriel showed up. Had they stopped praying for this?  Did they forget the years of persistent praying? Gabriel shows up and says your prayers have been heard (because God never forgets) and Zacharias first question is “How can I be sure?”  How often do we do this? We beg and plead and cajole asking God for something and then he answers (in his own perfect timing) and we say “I wonder if that was God?”  Where is the disconnect between believing enough to pray and believing that he will answer?  Maybe instead of questioning whether it is God, we should move forward as if it is…..just in case.
