But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1:22 NLT)
What is yur favorite way of studying the Bible? Do you like to read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation? Do you like to pick one verse, chapter, or book of the Bible and getting to understand what it says? Do you prefer using Bible study guides? Well, I like to do all of the above. I do different methods at different times. No matter how much I study and know the Bible inside out but don’t practice what it says, studying the Bible does me no good. It is essential to know and understand the Bible, but it is even more important to follow what God’s Word says.
If we are unwilling to practice what God’s Word says, we will not continue to grow spiritually. Our life will not be in harmony with God. As we put into practice what we learn as we study, we will grow in grace and wisdom. Our character will become more like Jesus. After all, He came to this earth to give us a pattern to follow. He lived in full harmony with the will of the Father.
Lord God, as we study your Word, please convict us where we need to make changes. Please give us the desire and the strength to follow your Word. Thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
