And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)
We read this verse and think it means when we face problems, they are all going to work out. But our problems don’t always just magically disappear. What does happen is we develop a deeper relationship with Jesus – which is for our good. What changes is what we appreciate on the inside. For example, if we are facing death, you appreciate (and want) the gift of eternal life. Major health issues? We appreciate the days we are given. Loss of a job? We deepen our prayer life and learn to live on much less. Living with really difficult people? We learn how to give unconditional love – and are amazed that God does it every day. Life changes? We learn to let go and follow God. In all of this, we learn to trust God, to know that He is the only sure thing in our lives. We are thankful for the love and safety He so willingly share. And the best thing, if we so fortunate, we will learn to submit to His plan for our lives.
