Lonesome Valley

Even when I walk

    through the darkest valley,

I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me.

Psalm 23:6 (NLT)

David had a few “dark valleys.” It was probably through those that he learned to trust God and not be afraid. We often wish that our lives would be full of smooth sailing with no difficulties. But God never promised that. What he promises is that no matter what we walk through, no matter where we go he will be close beside us. Close enough so that when it’s so dark you cannot see your hand in front of your face, you can reach out just a little to the right or left of you and you will feel Jesus. He’s there. When it’s pitch black, reach out to him. When you do, it’s gets a little lighter where you are.
