Love Him and Praise Him

Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD. (Psalms 117:1-2 NIV)

Psalms 117 is the shortest of all the Psalms, nevertheless lofty in its content. Notice that no tribe or nation is left out in the glorious invitation to praise the Lord. In Roman 15:11 the apostle Paul refers to this chapter to demonstrate that in Christ, God’s mercy has been extended to both the Gentiles and the Jews.

In these two verses alone we can see enough attributes about God to love Him and praise Him. The attributes of God given in this chapter are as everlasting as God Himself, and written to remind us that in the midst of society’s insecurities, we may rest secure in God’s love.

The Lord is waiting for us to proclaim His goodness and tell of His power. He is honored by the expression of our praise and thanksgiving. God desires that the whole life of His people should be a life of praise. This lifestyle will expel the spirit of murmuring and complaint. A testimony of thanksgiving will influence others and will be an effective means for winning souls to Christ.
