Love One Another

No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us. We are sure that we live in union with God and that he lives in union with us, because he has given us his Spirit.  1 John 4:12-13 (GNT)

Ever get really mad at someone? Ever just never want to talk to them again? Maybe it’s your spouse, your siblings, your in-laws? Maybe they did something truly hurtful and you just can’t get past it. It might feel justified to ignore them and hold a grudge – forever. But God takes this ‘love one another’ thing pretty seriously. Somehow, you have to get past the grudge holding, not speaking part of your reaction and move into ‘let’s work this out and love each other.’ If we take the first step, God promises to join in the effort and when God joins, love is made perfect. Maybe the first step is just praying to have God’s heart toward the situation; maybe it’s just a phone call or conversation. Whatever the first step, it’s clear it needs to be toward love. God does not leave us alone to figure this out either. In 1 John 4:17 it says “As we live in God, our love grows more perfect.” God will grow you. So take a deep breath, put one foot in front of the other and take a step toward love.
