Make Him Your Dwelling Place

If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalms 91:9-10 NIV

Our verse today begins with the condition for the promise of protection: making the Lord our dwelling place. This suggests an intimate and continuous relationship with God, where one’s life is characterized by seeking, abiding, and resting in His presence. When God becomes the central focus and refuge of one’s life, His protection follows.

The psalmist refers to God as the Most High, emphasizing His supreme authority, power, and sovereignty over all creation. Trusting the Most High means acknowledging His ability to provide refuge and deliverance in times of trouble.

The assurance given in these verses is that no evil or plague will be allowed to befall those who dwell in God’s presence. This doesn’t mean that we will never face difficulties or challenges, but rather that God will ultimately protect us from harm and deliver us from danger. It reflects God’s commitment to safeguarding His people and preserving their well-being.

The imagery of “your tent” symbolizes one’s home or dwelling place. It represents the entirety of one’s life, including family, possessions, and surroundings. The promise of protection extends not only to individuals but also to their households and all that is under their care.

Spend some time with God today and every day.
