Mind Like Christ

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:5-7 NIV)

Jesus gave up all his power and all his deity to come here. The Greek says he ‘emptied himself.’ He brought nothing with him that resembled what made him God. He became essentially, us. Although he was equal with God, he gave that up to live like, well us. So if he was so much like us, where did his power come from? It came from his connection to God. While he gave up his glory and his power, he didn’t give up his prayer life, he didn’t give up his relationship to God. He didn’t stop looking to God for guidance and never stopped obeying – even when he was nailed to the cross. Kind of makes you wonder ….. since his power came from his relationship with God, why aren’t we tapping into that power more? Jesus’ life makes it clear that we can.  –Elaine Kapentanakis
