Overcoming Self-Sufficiency

Those who are victorious will sit with Me on My throne, just as I was victorious and sat with My Father on His throne. Revelation 3:21 NLT

Revelation 3:14-22 is a message to the church in Laodicea. It is the last of the seven churches that received encouragement and discipline. Laodicea was a rich city located in Eskihisar, Turkey today. They received three things to do so they could be victorious. We are the last church before Jesus comes. We have also become self-sufficient, needing nothing. Yet, Jesus has identified three things that we need. They are:

  1. We need to buy gold from Jesus that has been tried in the fire. This symbolizes a proven faith that could last until the end. A faith that has been tried through the fires of tribulation. (1 Peter 1:7)
  2. Jesus offers white garments to cover our wretched condition. We need His salvation that He freely offers. White garments mean we need to have a relationship with God. (Isaiah 61:10; Revelation 7:9-10; 3:4-5)
  3. The last thing that we need is eye salve to anoint our eyes so that we might see our true spiritual condition. (Ephesians 1:18)

We have the privilege of receiving these three things from Jesus by asking and accepting them. When He returns, we will be able to share His power and glory. We must open the door to our hearts and submit to Him. He is willing and waiting for our response.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20 NLT
