Promises that Encourage

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Revelation 3:6 NIV

Just as each of the seven churches begins with a characteristic of Jesus, they also end with a personal appeal and promise:

Each church receives the same appeal: Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Each church also receives a promise according to what they are going through to give them encouragement to stay the course:

  1. Ephesus (Revelation 2:7): Tree of Life
  2. Smyrna (Revelation 2:10-11): Crown of Life, Escape 2nd death
  3. Pergamum (Revelation 2:17): Hidden manna, White stone, New name
  4. Thyatira (Revelation 2:26-28): Authority over nations, Rule over nations with iron scepter, Dash nations into pieces, Receive Morning Star
  5. Sardis (Revelation 3:4-5): Walk with Jesus, White robes, Names in Book of Life, Acknowledge before the Father, Acknowledged before angels
  6. Philadelphia (Revelation 3:10-12): Kept from hour of trial, Pillars in the temple, Never leave the temple, Have name of God, Name of the city of God, God’s new name written on them
  7. Laodicea (Revelation 3:21): Sit with Jesus on His throne

Some churches received more than one promise.  It is in proportion to their spiritual decline.  The promises were words of encouragement to help the church stay connect to Jesus.  Jesus wants everyone to be in His kingdom.  He wants to help us have a closer walk with Him.  He walks with us through our tribulations.  He is always by our side.  We may receive each of the promises today as well.  He has so much to offer.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Revelation 3:6 NIV
