Remember God’s Faithfulness in the Past

“Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the LORD your God has come true. Not a single one has failed! Joshua 23:14 NLT

Joshua knew his time was coming to a close. He called the leaders together to give his last instructions. Joshua affirms that throughout their journey, God has been faithful to fulfill every promise made to the Israelites. This underscores God’s reliability and trustworthiness in fulfilling His word.

Joshua recalls the history of Israel’s relationship with God, highlighting how God has consistently delivered on His promises from the time of their ancestors to the present moment. This serves as a reminder of God’s continuous involvement in their lives.

By emphasizing God’s faithfulness in the past, Joshua encourages the Israelites to trust in God for their future. He reassures them that just as God has fulfilled His promises in the past, He will continue to do so as they move forward.

Joshua speaks from personal experience and conviction, affirming that the Israelites themselves have witnessed the fulfillment of God’s promises. This strengthens his exhortation to remain faithful and obedient to God.

Joshua’s words create a legacy of trust in God among the Israelites. By reminding them of God’s faithfulness, he inspires future generations to rely on God’s promises and to continue in faithful obedience.

In essence, Joshua 23:14 encapsulates the theme of God’s unwavering faithfulness and the importance of remembering His promises as a source of encouragement, assurance, and guidance for His people throughout history. This includes us today. We can read in scripture how God was faithful in the past. Even looking at our own lives, we can see that God was faithful to us. Therefore, if God was faithful in the past, He will be faithful in our future.
