Remembering

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26 NIV)

Different churches have communion at various times.  It does not matter when you have communion, it matters why you have communion.  Why should we partake in communion?  Because Jesus said to remember Him through communion.  As you eat the bread and drink from the cup, remember that He gave Himself so that we may have life.  He is the Bread of Life.  His Word is life.  Communion represents His life, death, and resurrection.  We participate in communion in rembrance of what Jesus has done for us.  We participate in communion as we look forward to the day He returns and we can see Him face-to-face.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Matthew 26:26-29 NIV)
