May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV)
What is sanctification? The Merriam-Webster dictionary says it is “the state of growing in divine grace as a result of Christian commitment after baptism or conversion”. Sanctification is a purification process. It is spiritual growth. It is the maturity process we go through as our relationship with Jesus gets stronger. It is becoming Christ-like. Every part of us, spirit, soul, and body must be sanctified together. If one part is not sanctified we become unbalanced spiritually. This is not something that we do. God does it. All we need to do is commit our lives to Him and walk according to His ways. He changes us from the inside out. We must commit completely so that our spirit, soul, and body will be sanctified. He is preparing us for that great and wonderful day when Jesus returns.
