Spiritual Training

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27 NLT)

Paul used boxing and running marathons as examples of a Christian life.  A person who wants to try out for the Olympics must train.  They must eat properly and exercise so that their body will be in the best shape possible to qualify and enter the Olympics.  This is true for the spiritual body as well.  We need to have our sinful desires removed.  Our faith needs to be strong.  We need our sins to be forgiven so that we will have nothing to hinder us.  There are a lot of self-help books and seminars to help you overcome things like anger, etc.  But the real help you need is what Christ can do for you.  He is the one that can change you from the inside out.  We need to walk what we preach.  As we show the way to Christ to others we also need to be walking on the path.  In the end, we want to be qualified for heaven.
