Submit to Resist

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NIV)

Have you seen cartoons of the devil dressed in a red suit with a pitchfork?  I think those cartoons mislead people into thinking the devil doesn’t exist.  Revelation is very clear on who he is:

The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. (Revelation 12:9 NIV)

He was one of the most beautiful angels in heaven (Ezekiel 28:14-15; Isaiah 14:12-13).  The Bible makes it clear that Satan or the devil is a real being.  1 Peter 5:8 says he goes around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

If Satan could convince a third of the angels to follow him, how can we stand up against him?  James 4:7 gives us the key.  Submit ourselves to God.  Submit your life to God.  He will give you the power to stand firm.  He is more powerful than Satan.  Know that today you have the power to be victorious over sin.  God will give you the strength and wisdom to make the right decision so you don’t fall into Satan’s trap.  All you have to do is ask and you will receive the strength and wisdom.
