The More You Give, the More You Receive

The gentile woman of faith

The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs [puppies] under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.” She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. (Mark 7:26-30 NIV)

This story has always bothered me.  In the King James Version it appears Jesus is calling her race “dogs”. When you dig into it, what Jesus is actually telling her is there is an order to things.  He is saying he came to work with Israel first. “I must finish here before I continue elsewhere”. Her response, the response of a mother trying to save her child, was awesome. “There is plenty of you to go around. I’ll take whatever I can get.” Because of her faith and understanding, Jesus healed her daughter.

The love of Jesus is the one thing you can give away over and over again and never run out. Your cup will never be empty.  The totally cool thing about sharing Jesus is the more you give, the more you will receive.
