For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance–now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. (Hebrews 9:15 NIV)
A covenant is a legal document. The Old Covenant, the Old Testament, pointed to Christ and His ultimate atonement for sin. The animal sacrifice, the lamb of God was Christ. Sins were forgiven through the shedding of blood. Christ came and gave His life. His blood, the New Covenant or New Testament did away with the animal sacrifice because He was the lamb of God. It is through Christ’s blood that we receive forgiveness for sin. He died that we may have life eternal – our inheritance. Thank you, Jesus for dying for my sins. Thank you for making a way for me to have eternal life. I look forward to spending eternity with you.
