Thy Will Be Done

There is a song out now called “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott. The other day I was listening to the words. The first verse goes like this:

I’m so confused

I know I heard you loud and clear

So, I followed through

Somehow I ended up here

I don’t wanna think

I may never understand

That my broken heart is a part of your plan

When I try to pray

All I’ve got is hurt and these four words

It made me wonder if in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus asked God to take this cup from him, if this is what he was going through in his heart, in his mind. We know that one of the things that Jesus struggled with was not being able to feel the Father’s presence as he hung on the cross. How often are we in a dark place where we can’t feel God? Jesus experienced life as we know it and faced the same things we face. As he knelt before his Father, pleading for a different outcome, he ended up with the next line in this song.

Thy will be done

Sometimes, we can’t see past our own pain or confusion. Sometimes, we can’t imagine taking the next step. In those times, we just need to say

Thy will be done

And step forward in faith…..like Jesus did.
