The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
Lamentations 3:25-26 (ESV)
A few years ago, I decided to go away on a weekend retreat by myself to spend some time with God. I wanted to get rid of distractions and perhaps connect a little better. As I was driving to my retreat, I started questioning whether this was a good idea. You know the thoughts that can pop into your head making you doubt your plans (especially if they are God plans). “Why do you think this is a good idea? Do you think God is even going to notice? You are going to be alone in the woods in a cabin for the weekend. Something could happen to you.” That sort of thing. As I settled in on Friday evening, I opened my Bible and asked God what to read. I distinctly heard Lamentations which made me laugh out loud because it’s an odd book to start with but I started reading. When I got to Lamentations 3:25-26, all my questioning disappeared. It is good to wait on the Lord. When were you able to last sit quietly before God? I highly recommend it. It fills up your soul.
