Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. (Psalms 32:1-2 NIV)
The key words I see in these verses are “blessed”, “forgiven”, and “does not count”. We all commit transgressions against God. We are always rebelling, departing from God, sinning. We often miss the mark, failing to fully commit our lives to Him. So how are we blessed when we are sinners? We have such a loving God who will forgive us for our rebellion. When we confess our sins he will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). When we confess our sins we need to ask for help to resist temptation the next time it rears its ugly head. That is the cleansing part – to be able to resist temptation. We need to be willing to give up those cherished sins. We need a total commitment to our loving Father and Jesus our Saviour. Don’t get discouraged when you fail. Jesus is there to give you the strength you need. Keep holding on to Him.
We are so blessed. When we confess our sins they are covered by the blood of Jesus. They are no longer on the books. They have been erased. We serve such an awesome God of love.
