He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” Revelation 14:7 NIV
Revelation 14:7 calls us to a life of obedience. Fearing God is giving Him respect, honor, and reverence. It is giving our loyalty to our Creator and Redeemer. It is submitting our lives to Him through obedience.
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NIV
Have you been able to go through a day without sinning? I know I have not. I just don’t have the power by myself to keep from sinning. I agree with Paul:
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. Romans 7:24-25 NIV
We are too weak, but Jesus is strong. We can have power, power through Jesus just by asking. We can be overcomers in our Christian life by focusing on Jesus. Focus on His strength, not ours.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us–whatever we ask–we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15 NIV
