What are you doing?

There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:9 NIV

Elijah got scared and ran away. He was hiding in a cave when the LORD asked him what he was doing there. The LORD didn’t send him there. Elijah should have been in Israel instructing and encouraging those who had turned their backs on Baal worship. Elijah needed to search his heart and learn to take courage in the LORD. He had work to do that he had run away from.

What about us? Are we hiding and running away from the work that God has given us? Have we gotten discouraged because it appears that we are not accomplishing great things for God? We need to remind ourselves that we are seed planters, the LORD will bless the seed, and it will grow. Sometimes the seed takes a long time to take root. We need to continue planting the seed of the Gospel even though we don’t see any growth.
