What are you thankful for?

I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. Psalms 9:1-2 NIV

At Thanksgiving time each year, we list all of the things that we are thankful for. We don’t have to wait for Thanksgiving. We can thank God and others every day.

David begins Psalms 9 with thanksgiving and praise to God for His mighty deeds and for delivering the psalmist from his enemies. This sets the tone for the entire psalm, highlighting the psalmist’s acknowledgment of God’s intervention in times of trouble.

What has God done yesterday or today that you are thankful for? My heart is full of thankfulness for His protection. Yesterday, I was almost involved in a horrible accident when a semi-truck started to turn in front of me. I am sure my angel stopped the truck just in time.

Throughout Psalms 9, there’s a strong emphasis on God’s sovereignty over the nations and His role as the righteous judge. David acknowledges that God will judge the world with righteousness and administer justice to the oppressed.

There are so many political leaders in every country today that it makes you wonder if God or Satan is in charge. Be assured that God is still in charge.

We can have confidence in God’s protection and refuge. Those who trust in Him will not be forsaken. This theme of trust in God’s providence runs throughout Psalms 9, serving as a source of comfort and assurance.

David urges us to praise God and recount His marvelous deeds to all who will listen. This call to remember God’s works serves as a reminder of His faithfulness and power, encouraging faith and devotion among believers.

Psalms 9 also speaks to the plight of the oppressed and marginalized. David prays for God’s mercy and justice to be upon the afflicted, expressing hope that God will hear their cries and bring deliverance.

Why not walk through Psalms 9 today and turn it into a prayer of thanksgiving?
