When God Says No

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (James 4:3 NIV)

Paul says to pray without ceasing.  Jesus says to ask and we will receive.  What if we don’t receive what we are asking for?  James says it is because we are asking with the wrong motives.  Maybe we should be praying like Jesus “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42 NIV).

God knows the big picture.  He wants to give us what we desire but He knows that our desires may cause us or others pain down the road.  He wants to give us the best.  If our prayers have not been answered the way you wanted.  Maybe we need to take a look at what we are asking for.  Will our desires draw us closer to Christ?
