Why did God give us the Bible?

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. (Romans 15:4 NIV)

Why did God give us the Bible?  Paul says the scriptures were given to teach us, give us endurance for our Christian walk and provide encouragement so that we might have hope.  I agree with Paul.  Every time I read the Bible from cover to cover I discover something new.  Some new insight that I had not thought of before.  But it wasn’t until I started to really study and look at each verse and compare other verses of scripture with the verse I was studying that I really started to learn.  I love to read the promises in the Bible.  They are so uplifting and encouraging.  I love to read about Jesus.  I love to read His promises that He loves us, will be with us, and He is returning to take us home with Him.  What is your favorite verses in the Bible?  What does reading/studying those verses do for you?
