Why doesn’t God answer my prayers?

… Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (James 4:2-3 NLT)

James says some pretty strong words.  Sometimes we treat God like Santa Clause with our Christmas list of all the things we want. We think we deserve that promotion at work/church/school. We want it so bad that it can affect our actions. We might say some things about another person who is also being considered for the job. Sometimes we are not so nice. What if we pray for God’s will to be done? When our life is in tune with His, we will want what He wants for us. He can see the big picture and knows that what we are asking for could be a problem later.  We can trust God to give us what we need and not necessarily what we want.  If we pray for the Holy Spirit daily, we will know what to ask for so that we can bring glory to our Heavenly Father.
