You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19b-20 NIV)
When I think of honoring God with my body, I think of things like exercise, eating healthy, not abusing my body with drugs and alcohol, abstaining from sexual immorality. We tend to think about our bodies from the neck down but our brains are just as much a part of our body. How much time do I spend watching TV – shows that would not honor God? How about Facebook, reading things on the internet, or any distraction that takes too much of my time so I can’t spend time listening. The physical health items are important because if our bodies don’t feel well, we can’t hear God’s voice but equally important is the ability to step away from our mental distractions to spend time pondering God. Honoring God with our bodies can mean something different to each person. What does it mean to you?
